Jive
The Jive is a very fast lively dance made popular during World War II by the swing music of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller. It is a rhythmical and swinging dance which was influenced by the Rock & Roll, Boogie and the African/American Swing. In 1940 the Jive was developed into the Jitterbug and which was further developed into the International Competition Jive by Englishmen Jos Bradly and Alex Moore.
The International style Jive is characterized by kicks and flicks while the more authentic style displayed more torso and hip movements. In today’s competitions a mixture of both styles can be recognized.
